PREParation for PRCP

Time-limited certification in general pediatrics became a reality 5 years ago when candidates certified after May 1988 by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) began receiving 7-year certificates. For example, those certified in late 1988 received certificates that are valid only through December 31, 1995. The process to be used for recertification has been the focus of many discussions between representatives of the ABP and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). The product of those discussions is already in distribution to the first set of recertification candidates as this issue of Pediatrics In Review goes to press.

But the AAP has done more than just discuss the Program for Renewal of Certification in Pediatrics (PRCP) as it was being developed.
