Taking the Record Review Section of the Pediatric Recertification Examination

Editors: Lawrence F. Nazarian, MD.

The new version of the recertification examination in pediatrics administered by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) is now a reality. Called the Program for Renewal of Certification in Pediatrics (PRCP), the examination is available to all diplomates of the ABP. The program is of particular interest to those who passed their original examinations in 1988 or later because their certification is for a term of 7 years.

This examination is taken on a personal computer in an open book format and has four components. The Record Review section requires the pediatrician to evaluate the medical records of nine of his or her patients.
