Lavage for Camphor Poisoning
In the January issue of PIR (2:212, 1981) the comment on the abstract "Camphor Toxicity" states that "Acute poisoning usually is treated by induced emesis." A reader questioned this, stating that emesis probably increases the risk of seizures in camphor poisoning, and suggested that a safer procedure was to use saline lavage followed by activated charcoal and a saline cathartic. This is indeed the correct approach as Dr Rapkin originally wrote in his abstract. Somehow gremlins got into the editorial process.
