Pediatricians, through concern for and understanding of the problem of accidents, can do much to assure an active, forceful, and rational approach to childhood injury. Pediatricians can maximize the effectiveness of their efforts by identifying the interaction of principle causal factors and supporting a combination of preventive measures. However, pediatricians cannot do it alone. Significant progress in the nest decade will in large measure be determined by the ability of pediatricians to work with the nonmedical community in implementing and carrying forth meaningful efforts in accident prevention.
