Cyanosis in the Newborn Infant

In the July issue of PIR (4:13, 1982), there is an error pertaining to the Self-Assessment Quiz. As discussed on page 20 at the bottom of the last column, application of positive airway pressure will result in a significant rise in Pao2 in all infants with RDS except those with the most severe disease. Question 4 in the Self-Assessment Quiz (p 35) should be correctly answered "B" and "E" Answer C is not a correct answer.

In addition, in the discussion of the questions (facing p 3) regarding this article, a typographical error occurred. The discussion of questions 4 and 5 should read, "In severe RDS, there is hypoventilation...," rather than "hyperventilation" as printed.
