Abstract
Since the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) began distributing the various components of the Program for Renewal of Certification in Pediatrics (PRCP) in the summer of 1993 (as described in the September 1993 issue of Pediatrics in Review), two major changes in the process have been made:
1. It is no longer necessary to complete the PRCP in the year your certificate expires to receive a full 7-year extension. That is, if your certificate expires in 1996, you may complete the PRCP in either 1995 or 1996 and receive a certificate that is valid until December 31, 2003. If, for some reason, your certificate lapses (eg, your certificate expires on December 31, 1996, and you do not complete the recertification process until sometime in 1997), your new certificate will be valid through December 31, 2004 (whatever date you finish, 1997 + 7 = December 31, 2004).
